“Local pizza tavern in Helen, Georgia. Immediately greeted upon entering the establishment. Friendly & courteous staff. Nice beer & whiskey selection. definitely in the top 10% of all the pizza’s I’ve eaten. Good Greek salad with anchovies & a full meatball Parmesan order is like 2 from my local sub shop. Definitely bring an appetite for food & drinks. 2 ‘s”

Address: 9001 N Main St, Helen, Georgia 30545
The Hofbrau (with free downtown Helen parking) is a true landmark in Helen, and one of our most famous and popular restaurants. It’s part of the Riverfront Hotel, and offers amazing riverside seating directly next to the Chattahoochee River. Whether you come during the day, or for a candle-lit dinner, you’ll be dining surrounded by a beauty like few ever get to enjoy.
The Hofbrau is managed by a genuine Bavarian chef, imported from Germany, and specializes in European cuisine. When you’re dining on schnitzel or brats alongside the river, surrounded by quaint 19th Century architecture… you could almost believe you were taking a vacation in the Old World, right here at home.
Here’s what local guide Joe Salyer has to say about the restaurant…
“Fantastic food and outstanding service! One of the best Reuben sandwiches I have ever eaten made even better with German potato salad. Save room for apple strudel it is amazing!”

The Troll Tavern features a range of food, including some of the only Mexican to be found in Helen, along with German and American fare. We recommend stopping for lunch – you can fill up the kids with food, while cooling off with a nice beer or two from the tap.
Here’s what local guide Craig has to say about The Troll Tavern…
“It was nice. The weather was gorgeous so sitting outside is what we did. It was clean and the service was delightful. The food was excellent! We had the best and the Reuben: both really tasty. I’d go again and you get to watch people float down the river, so that was cool as well.”
(PS – Make sure you try their fresh key lime pie when you go!)
North Georgia BBQ Company
Address: 663 Edelweiss Strasse, Helen, GA 30545

There’s a lot of German food in Helen, but if you’re looking for some 100% Grade-A American food for your family, you can’t go wrong at the North Georgia BBQ. It looks and feels like classic barbecue pits have for decades, with nothing but outdoor seating because the interior is all about the smoke and the slow-cooking.
We could talk about the melt-in-your-mouth richness of their smokey meats or their homemade sauces… but you really have to experience them for yourself. There’s a reason north Georgia is a destination for BBQ fans across the state AND across state lines. If you’re nearby, you probably won’t find a better barbecue anywhere.
Here’s what local guide John Allan has to say about the experience…
“Good food. Our pulled pork was a little dry without the sauce, but pretty tasty. The larger sandwich was big; we cut it in half for two of the kids to share (with hand for scale).”

Bigg Daddy’s American Tavern
Address: 807 Edelweiss Stasse Helen, Georgia 30545
If you or your family love live music, Bigg Daddy’s is one of the THE best spots in Helen to spend an evening! They have live bands practically every weekend, featuring a wide range of local talent, as well as up-and-coming indie bands on the road. With Atlanta only 90 minutes away, Helen is great for bands looking for more exposure.
In terms of food, you can’t go wrong here. Their seafood – largely fished straight from local waters – is constantly a highlight, but their pizzas and burgers constantly earn high praise. So does their hustling, eager-to-please staff.
If you’re looking to save a little money, come on Wednesday for their 50 cent wings night!
Here’s what local guide Mike McDonough has to say about the tavern…
“Food was delicious. Everyone in our party of four was impressed with their meal. Only negative was the staff handling the wait list and seating. 2 out of 3 were borderline rude seating our party. Not one of them said “thank you” or “welcome”. Our server for dinner was pleasant and helpful. All that being said, I would recommend this restaurant if you are in Helen.”

Address: 8537 S. Main St., Helen, Georgia 30545
Looking to feed a family with a big appetite? Paul’s offers all-you-can-eat specials every night, as well as a full set of steak and seafood offerings. Paul’s is one of the oldest and best-respected restaurants in the area. The interior is cozy and intimate, or, you could eat on their Margarita Deck, overlooking the Chattahoochee.
Paul’s is another hub for live music in Helen as well, with local acts most Friday and Saturday nights. It’s also one of our favorites, when we’re just looking for a good dinner on the town. After all, we get to eat in Helen every day!
Here’s what local guide Dylan Sexton has to say about the steakhouse…
“Very awesome place to grab a bite to eat in Helen! Came here randomly after a trip from Tallulah Gorge to have dinner. Got a nice seat next to the Window to see the river! Steak was very delicious. Will definitely come back here again next time I visit.”
