There are a variety of hiking and biking trails including an easy lake loop, a trek into Downtown Helen, a rugged jaunt to Anna Ruby Falls, and a challenging 7.5 mile single track trail for mountain biking. Additionally, park rangers and staff present seasonal nature hikes and special educational opportunities that allow guests to learn more about the park, local wildlife, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unicoi Lake is a popular spot for swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. You can also rent equipment for water fun during the warm spring and summer months.

If you’ve never flyfished before you can sign up for lessons from the experts at Unicoi Outfitters. The classes boast small instructor to student ratio so each participant has plenty of opportunity to learn in a hands on fashion. There are classes on the basics of fly fishing, fly tying, and specialized topics. Once you learn the fishing basics you can book a tour with one of Unicoi Outfitter’s professional guides. Guided tours are available for trophy trout fishing, drift boat trips, and public water wade trips.

Chattahoochee Stables Horseback Riding Regardless of whether you’ve been horseback riding before or not, the Chattahooche Stables have the perfect horseback riding adventure for you. The guided trail rides are 3.5 miles long and meander along the Chattahoochee River. During the summer months they also lead the guided tours through the water to provide the only “river ride” in the area. Each of the stables’ horses is in training twelve months a year to ensure that all the animals are able to provide consistent and safe rides for all guests. Reservations are requested but not required.

Woody’s Mountain Bike Rides A retail store, bike rental supplier, and tour operator, Woody’s Mountain Bikes is a cycling mainstay in Helen. You can rent bikes and hit the trails on your own or you can sign up for one of Woody’s two bike rides. The Gap Ride consists of a shuttle ride to the trail head and a 14 mile self guided tour back to Woody’s. Along the way you will encounter 12 waterfalls and ride the last five miles along the Chattahoochee River. The Gold Ride will take you past old gold mines, covered bridges, wetlands, and waterfalls. This route allows you to shorten or expand your adventure. When you finish you simply call Woody’s from the visitor’s center and the shuttle will be back to pick you up.

Cool River Tubing Adventures Cool River Tubing, located in the heart of downtown Helen, provides guests a relaxing way to enjoy the scenery of the North Georgia mountains. You can choose from the short ride or the long ride and both supply plenty of Chattoohoochee River fun. The long ride takes about two hours, starting at the the Cool River north location and continuing to the take out point.  The short ride consists of an hour ride starting at the south location and also ending at the take out point.  Cool River Tubing offers guests several fun waterslides to complete the wet outdoor adventure. You can add a water slide pass to your tubing trip for a small additional fee.
