What’s happening in Helen GA during April 2014? What are some fun springtime activities for visitors to Helen, GA? Are there any fun events taking place in April 2014? The good news is that Helen is bustling in the spring and there will be many events in or around town for visitors to enjoy. The town is situated in the North Georgia Mountains, and so there is plenty of spectacular scenery for vacationers to enjoy while here.

Weekly Bingo Starting on April 1, 2014
Bingo fans will be happy to know that they can play every Tuesday and Friday night through September 5th. The weekly bingo games will be held in the Helen Chamber of Commerce Festhalle starting at 6PM.  The first five games will have prizes of $150 and the last game will have a prize of $750. No food or drink may be brought into the Festhalle, but there will be food and drinks available there. Children under 18 are allowed to play as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

The First Visit Tour on April 5, 2014
Visitors can get an introduction to Smithgall Woods State Park on this visit. While here, they will tour the visitor center area and go on a van tour of the park. The Smithgall Woods State Park is three miles west of Helen. Duke’s Creek and the park’s covered bridge are among the notable sights. It will be necessary to register in advance and parking will cost $5 per vehicle.

Weekly Wildflower Hunts Starting on April 5, 2014
This time of year in Helen is perfect for hikers. With the weekly wildflower hunts, visitors can take part in a moderately challenging three-mile hike in the Smithgall Woods State Park while hunting for wildflowers. The park offers an amazing variety of wildflowers that will be in bloom in the spring. The weekly wildflower hunts take place along the Martin Mine Trail where hikers can find Canada Violets, irises and many other types of flowers. They will be guided by Georgia State Park rangers and will get the opportunity to look at these flowers close up. The weekly wildflower hikes are free but donations are welcome. Parking will cost $5.

Spring Fling on April 12, 2014
Attend the 2014 Fashions with Belk at the Sautee Nacoochee Center in Sautee Nachoochee. The community of Sautee Nacoochee is about four miles southeast of Helen. Tickets for the Spring Fling Fashion Show will cost $20 and that includes both the fashion show and lunch.

69th Annual Commemorative Ceremony for our President April 12, 2014 
This ceremony to pay tribute to Franklin Delano Roosevelt will be held at the park on the anniversary of his death. A Marine Color Guard will be present and there will be a guest speaker. The ceremony will last from 11am to 12:30pm. The Unicoi State Park and Lodge is about four miles south of Helen.helen ga

Springfest at the Festhalle on April 12, 2014
Helen’s first Springfest will be held in April 2014. Visitors can go to Helen’s Festhalle to celebrate the return of spring to the mountains of Northeast Georgia. There will be Bavarian music, dancing along with food and beverages. Admission is $7; food and drinks will be extra. The festivities will start at 6PM and run until 11PM.

The White County Celebrity Golf Tournament on April 16, 2014
This tournament offers visitors the opportunity to meet a variety of celebrities. This year’s guest list includes players from the worlds of professional football, baseball and several other sports; it includes Steve Wallace, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers and Roger Erickson, the former Minnesota Twins pitcher. The tournament will be held at the Innsbruck Golf Club in Helen. The club’s championship golf course was designed by Bill Watts to be challenging for experienced golfers while still being enjoyable for novices. There will be a reception for the celebrities, the players and the public at Bigg Daddys Tavern and Restaurant on Edelweiss Strasse in Helen. The reception starts at 5:30 PM.

Live & Kickin’ April 19, 2014
Visitors can see tributes to their favorite country music stars live at the Unicoi State Park and Lodge. Acts will include homages to country music stars Travis Tritt and Tim McGraw; there will also be Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra tribute acts performing as well.  The concert will start at 7PM and go until 10PM.
