Romantic Fondue Ideas: Create The Perfect Chocolate Fondue!

Chocolate fondue. Mmmm, that favorite of 1970’s house parties is making a comeback.

It’s easy to see why. The combination of chocolate, strawberries, and cream is perfect for romance. You might guess that this dish started in Switzerland, but it hails from New York City.

Chalet Swiss, a popular Manhattan restaurant of the mid-20th century, crafted this dish in 1966 and it was instantly famous.

You don’t have to be a culinary genius to create this memorable dish for two. A fondue pot and some quality dark chocolate will do the trick.

Recipe for Chocolate Fondue

12 ounces quality dark chocolate, broken into bits

8 ounces whipping cream

1 tablespoon of your favorite liqueur (Frangelico, Chambord and Amaretto work well), optional

Garnish the platter with fruit for dipping (firm fruit, such as strawberries, pineapple slices, and orange wedges work best), peeled, sliced or trimmed. Add some marshmallows for some modern-style s’mores.

To make the fondue, heat the cream gently in a saucepan over low heat. Gradually add the chocolate pieces, whisking continually until the chocolate melted into the mixture. Add the liqueur, if desired, and whisk thoroughly. Transfer the mixture to a fondue pot (or use the saucepan.) Serve the fruit on a platter.
