Where to Experience North Georgia’s Fall Colors?

Fall is in the air. Experience one of the longest-running fall foliage seasons in the world in North Georgia. There are plenty of trees with different shades of vibrant reds, yellows, oranges, and browns. If you’re ready to be bedazzled by the fall colors, here are the places you can visit near Helen, Georgia.

Blue Ridge Mountains

In early October, the leaves begin to change in the higher elevations in the mountain. By early November the leaves then work their way to the lower elevations. The intensity of color often varies greatly from mile to mile.

Yonah Mountain

There are plenty of hiking opportunities to see the fall foliage at Yonah Mountain. The trail extends about 4.4 miles round trip. The views are beautiful but just be careful not to get too close to the drop-offs at the top since they can be dangerous.

Brasstown Bald

Being the tallest mountain in Georgia, this makes the viewing platform at the form a perfect place for 360-degree views which makes it an excellent spot to see the beautiful fall foliage.

Brasstown Bald is also among the first to display the season’s fall colors. The hike to the top is pretty steep but there is a shuttle service if you need it.

Smithgall Woods State Park

Enjoy hiking while watching the fall foliage here. There are gold mines, scenic creek bed of Dukes Creek, and waterfalls. The area is also a fantastic place to go fishing.

Unicoi State Park & Lodge

One of the most popular parks in Georgia, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy watching the scenic views and mountain biking here. There is a cool mountain lake for swimming or canoeing.

Rabun Bald

Being the second-highest peak in Georgia, people have the opportunity to view the scenery from the observation tower. On clear days the views can extend up to more than a hundred miles.

Tallulah Gorge State Park

This is one of North GA’s most popular destinations for outdoor adventure. Many people especially prefer to visit it during the fall season for its gorgeous views and colors. There is a suspension bridge and plenty of waterfalls.
