Have you heard of the Bavarian Fest?
The annual event features a live Oompah band and a festive German atmosphere at the end of May. What’s oompah, you say? Come to Georgia’s Little Bavaria in Helen and find out what a real Bavarian Festival is. The music will get your toes tapping and soon you will be up dancing the polka…it is very fun! There is plenty of imported and domestic beer, wursts, Bavarian pretzels, barbecue, popcorn, sauerkraut, hot dogs, snacks, and desserts. It is a beautiful blend of entertainment, pleasant sights, and a family-friendly atmosphere. What better way to welcome summer in Northeast Georgia?
The festivity starts at 6 pm and ends at 11 pm. Because the festival is also in line with Memorial Day, veterans and active military have free admission along with one guest when they go to the Bavarian Fest! There is an admission fee for the rest. The event is sponsored by the Helen Chamber of Commerce.
Bavarian Fest is held at 1074 Edelweiss Strasse Helen, Georgia at the outdoor beer garden. The charming town features German fare, cobblestone streets, and Euro-style architecture against a mountain backdrop in Northeast Georgia — like an Appalachian Bavaria!
Bavarian Nights of Summer starts Saturday in mid-June and runs through mid-August. The bands are crowd pleasers with German favorites like “Roll Out the Barrel” as well as some familiar American tunes. The evening is much like Oktoberfest, but on much a smaller scale and in warmer weather! Ready to explore? Start packing your bags as Helen has lots of merriment in store for you.
