Helen, Georgia is located just 45 miles from the southern terminus of the historic Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, Georgia.
As the trail snakes through the North Georgia mountains, Hogpen Gap is located just 7 miles to the west-northwest of Helen, and about 10 miles to the north is Unicoi Gap.
